Our understanding of the Inernational Basketball Association

The International Basketball Association was an organization based in Washington D.C. and was formed to promote and enhance healthy living, social responsibility, and leadership skills through the medium of basketball to youth and adults globally. Unlike professional organizations, which primarily exist for entertainment purposes, the IBA is first and foremost a social awareness organization. When children are involved in sports, they more readily learn other constructive, life enhancing concepts that are transferable to their everyday lives such as HIV/AIDS prevention, career development, and a positive perspective on life.

IBA Mission

The mission is to serve youth and young adults throughout the United States, Africa and Central America through the vehicle of basketball by translating the precepts embodied in this popular sport into a code for living. Every step, which leads to personal enrichment ultimately, will translate into a lifetime of meaningful contributions to society, regardless of social economic status. While promoting a specific ethical system of life enhancing alternatives, the IBA seeks to impart a general code of moral conduct within the specific context of the LiveRight-PlayRight (LRPR) curriculum.

Objectives

To fight the HIV epidemic by promoting healthy living, social responsibilities and leadership skills through the medium of basketball to youth and adults throughout the United States, Africa and the Central America.

To educate the masses in a basketball camp/resort environment using sport as a means of enhancing education.

To offer opportunities to children and adults alike from various economic backgrounds the opportunity to gain personal skills and increased knowledge for a lifetime of sport and health with their only obligations being time and effort.

To provide developmental camps and tournaments for various ages.

To promote and enhance basketball with the utmost attention being given to quality instruction and personal development.

To work with schools and organizations to promote a strong preventative program concerning HIV following the ABC’s which consists of – Abstinence, Being Faithful (one partner) and the use of Condoms.

To create opportunities for high school, collegiate and professional players, along with coaches to play and work abroad.

The International Basketball Association (IBA) was an organization based in Washington D.C.

Edward C. Robinson is the President of the IBA, which has been in existence since 1989. During a 15-year career of coaching and teaching in the international community, Mr. Robinson developed an appreciation for the diversity of cultures and economies that impact children’s abilities to function in this world. He found that regardless of an individuals socioeconomic status, most children enjoy the dimensionality represented by organized sports…especially basketball.
